Your Everyday Moments | Mornington Peninsula Family Photographer

It's no secret that I believe very strongly that every day holds its own magic, and that those ordinary moments often turn into extraordinary memories.

I know it's not possible to hire a professional photographer every single day (although it would be pretty cool to have your own personal documentarian!), so let's dive into some tips to help YOU capture your everyday, magical moments.

So, grab your camera/phone and let's go:

  • Embrace Natural Light: When capturing everyday moments, nothing compares to the soft, natural light that filters through your windows or spills across outdoor spaces. Keep an eye out for interesting patterns or shadows that add depth and interest to your photos.

  • Focus on Details: Sometimes, it's the little things that make a moment special. Pay attention to the details—a child's tiny hand grasping a toy, a flower blooming in your garden, or the steam rising from your cup of tea. It's the details that often go unnoticed, but hold immense beauty and significance, and will help tell your full story.

  • Capture Genuine Expressions: Authenticity is key when it comes to everyday moments. Encourage your family members to be themselves and let their natural expressions shine through. Please don't make anyone say "Cheese!"

  • Document Everyday Routines: Our daily routines are filled with meaningful moments that make up the fabric of our lives. From breakfast conversations to bedtime stories, photographing these routines helps preserve memories and create a sense of nostalgia. Capture the moments that define your family's uniqueness and tell the story of your everyday life.

  • Experiment with Perspectives: Don't be afraid to get creative with your angles and perspectives. Try shooting from different heights—get down low or shoot from above—to add variety and visual interest to your photographs. By experimenting with perspectives, you can capture a fresh and unique view of familiar scenes. BONUS TIP: When capturing your children, squat/sit/lay down so you're at their height. Shooting from their eye level rather than your own will make for a stronger image.

  • Find Beauty in the Mundane: Everyday moments don't always have to be grand or extraordinary to be worth capturing. Look for beauty in the mundane—a stack of books on a shelf, raindrops on a window, or a messy kitchen table after a family meal. By appreciating and documenting these seemingly ordinary moments, you'll discover the extraordinary within them!

I hope these tips inspire you to see the beauty in your everyday moments and capture them with love and creativity!
